In the summer of 2020, Francis Bee, Executive Director of Gallup Improvement District, (BID), completed a four-day training course with the National Development Council (NDC). In alignment with NDC’s mission, that course inspired him to see tremendous potential for Gallup.
Since 1969, NDC, a national nonprofit organization, has provided training and guidance to communities across the United States and in Puerto Rico. The organization’s mission is to help communities secure funding, and to analyze and execute deals related to economic opportunity and community improvement.

Self-driving vehicles are our future, and initiatives are in place to make Greater Gallup and New Mexico national hubs for autonomous mobility. A 2-day virtual Economic Roundtable took place on February 11th and 12th. The purpose of the event was to further advance New Mexico’s mobility strategy, and to further advance an integrated strategy to establish a "mobility hub" in Gallup in partnership with the state of NM.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded a $600,000 grant to the City of Gallup, New Mexico, to support regional economic recovery strategies for healthcare and transportation industries. The project will be matched with $150,000 in local funds. The grant was funded by the CARES Act, which provided $1.5 billion to EDA for economic development assistance programs to help communities prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus.
