In collaboration with 12 local community organizations and two state agencies, Greater Gallup Economic Development Corporation (GGEDC) is presenting 2025 Economic Development Week with events and activities of interest to a range of audiences running from today through Saturday May 17th. This year, we selected the theme “Growing Stronger Together.”
Economic development is at the core of well-being and quality of life for communities across the United States. It is a group of policies, programs, and activities that seek to create and retain jobs and ultimately facilitate economic growth. Each year, the 2nd week in May marks Economic Development Week. Created in 2016 by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the week serves to increase awareness of local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities, and improve communities’ quality of life everywhere.
In our observance of Economic Development Week this year, we are joining over 500 economic development groups throughout the United States and Canada to celebrate the week. Here in Gallup and McKinley County, GGEDC and its economic development partners are showcasing the importance and impacts of the economic development they are creating in our communities.
In addition to running daily Op Ed columns in The Gallup Independent on how the various organizations and nonprofits are impacting community economic growth, GGEDC looks forward to presenting and sharing events that highlight job training and workforce development opportunities and programs, opportunities for small businesses to learn about support for business startups and expansions, and to learn about a major initiative underway by McKinley County to create a regional inland trade port.
Economic Development Week is an excellent opportunity to meet community builders and learn how to engage in efforts that enhance the quality of life in our communities.
The 2025 Economic Development Week Schedule is as follows:
