Press Release: Gallup Land Partners, LLC, and the City of Gallup Unite to Annex 4,800 Acres for Economic Development
January 3, 2025
Gallup, New Mexico —Gallup Land Partners, LLC (GLP) and the City of Gallup are pleased to announce the successful annexation of approximately 4,800 acres of prime property into the City of Gallup, including strategic parcels along the recently completed Carbon Coal Road. This milestone represents a transformative step for the region, paving the way for expanded economic development and employment, housing, and recreation opportunities.
Annexation is a natural outgrowth of substantial strategic improvements made over the last 12 years with the intent to increase economic development in the Greater Gallup area. “This annexation reflects a collaborative effort among the City of Gallup, McKinley County, the State of New Mexico, Gallup Land Partners, and the Greater Gallup Economic Development Corporation (GGEDC),” stated Gallup Mayor Louie Bonaguidi. “By extending municipal services and fostering a pro-business environment, this partnership is positioning the region as a hub for innovation and industry.”
“This is a significant step forward and underscores our collective commitment to foster economic vitality and attract investment to the region,” stated Jake Bracken, CEO, Gallup Land Partners. “We are committed to ensuring the responsible and sustainable development of our land and enhancing the quality of life for residents and businesses alike.”
Patty Lundstrom, Executive Director of the GGEDC believes the annexation will be a game- changer for the regional community. “We can now market this area to companies that will be attracted to our unique location and transportation assets,” she commented. “We envision Greater Gallup as the location of an inland trade port that connects us more strongly with the national logistics supply chain and generates new jobs for our region.”
Strategic Plans for Growth and Development
The annexed area will be a cornerstone of the development plans that GLP is advancing in collaboration with the GGEDC, the city of Gallup, McKinley County, the Northwest New Mexico Council of Governments, and the State of New Mexico, including:
- Gallup Energy Logistics Park: A premier rail-served industrial hub designed to accommodate
manufacturing, energy production, logistics operations, and a foreign trade zone. Strategically
located on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) mainline and adjacent to Interstate 40, the
park provides unparalleled connectivity to regional, national, and international markets and
offers a promising opportunity for the creation of new high-wage jobs in the region. - Expanded Commercial and Industrial Opportunities: With city services in place, the
annexation enhances the viability of attracting new businesses, including renewable energy
facilities, value-added agriculture processing, and advanced manufacturing. - Support for the Workforce and Community: Future developments are expected to create
hundreds of jobs, providing much-needed opportunities for residents while strengthening the
regional economy.
