Part 2 - Historic Theaters Institute Provides Resources for Communities to Rehab Historic Theaters
May 10, 2016
More than 40 New Mexico community leaders and officials, from 11 communities, gathered in Silver City April 22 to learn about how Historic Theaters can spur economic growth in downtown MainStreet districts. The Institute, part of the broader New Mexico Historic Theaters Initiative, is an ongoing statewide effort by the New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) and New Mexico MainStreet (NMMS) to rehabilitate historic theaters and install new digital projection and sound equipment to run current features, and improve performance of local theaters. The institute featured the latest news on the Historic Theaters Initiative; case studies and tours of Silver City's Theater District, including the Silco Theater, El Sol Theater and Gila Theater; a theater manager roundtable that offered tips and insights on successful theater management, understanding technology, and marketing trends; and networking and reports from the New Mexico historic theater community including theater operators, arts managers, and volunteers.
