State signals more success with MainStreet Program

Gary Gerew | Albuquerque Business First - The state Economic Development Department said the New Mexico MainStreet program was responsible for starting 82 new businesses and creating 422 jobs in 2013.
“New Mexico MainStreet continues to pay dividends for New Mexico’s economy by improving quality of life and bringing dollars back to our historic communities,” said Economic Development Department Cabinet Secretary Jon Barela in a statement. “The numbers continue to show that local economies are seeing a tremendous return with money being reinvested, buildings rehabilitated and jobs created.”
According to the state, business owners within the 27 MainStreet districts invested almost $20 million in 126 building rehabilitation projects coordinated through the program.
