New Mexicans pay low taxes at the pumps

Dennis Domrzaiski | Albuquerque Business First - New Mexico has one of the lowest gasoline taxes in the nation, according to the Washington, D.C.,-based Tax Foundation.
The state’s 18.88-cent per-gallon gas tax put it in 43rd place among the states.
California has the highest gas tax at 52.89 cents while Alaska has the lowest at 12.4 cents.
In addition to state gas tax, the federal gasoline gas tax is 18.4 cents a gallon.
Here’s how New Mexico and surrounding states compare when it comes to gasoline taxes:
- Arizona: 18.88 cents; 43
- Colorado: 22 cents; 42
- Oklahoma: 17 cents; 47
- New Mexico: 18.88 cents; 43
- Nevada: 33.15 cents; 13
