Fruitland Coal Formation
September 5, 2016
Based on research and resource calculations done throughout McKinley County, there are four prime locations for potential coal production; the first on that list is the Fruitland Formation in the Star Lake area.
Based on their location on the Chaco Slope, the coals in the Fruitland Formation are perfect for the desired type of surface mining preferred in McKinley County. With the coal being relatively thick and possessing a greater continuity than found in other regions, the Fruitland Formation is the best location for a new or expanding business to mine coal.
