Crownpoint Field
September 19, 2016
With four prime locations for coal surface mining in the San Juan Basin, interested new or expanding businesses have a lot of pros and cons to weigh before choosing a location.
For example - the Crevasse Canyon Formation found in the Crownpoint field has proven to have high coal resource potential. The terrain and structure of the region allow for optimal surface mining, but there are a few drawbacks. Crownpoint field lacks rail access, and while abundant, coal seams average a thickness of about 3.6 feet. Even with the cons, Crownpoint Field could be an excellent investment for the right business.
