Gallup, NM – GGEDC Executive Director Patty Lundstrom announced New Mexico Gas Company is awarding a $25,000 grant to Greater Gallup Economic Development Corporation (GGEDC) to support local economic development efforts in McKinley County.
Announced during an event in Gallup with GGEDC Board of Director President Tommy Haws and City of Gallup Mayor Jackie McKinney, the one-time appropriation will be reinvested in its entirety back into project development, providing a much needed capital infusion to advance strategic economic development initiatives currently in the planning and development phase.
“Cultivating strategic partnerships to leverage additional resources for economic development is part of the mission for GGEDC,” said Executive Director Patty Lundstrom. “This investment in GGEDC will help to establish and grow the transportation/logistics industry in McKinley County, and facilitate planning for a super center truck stop in Gallup, NM.”
“I am delighted about the partnership between GGEDC and NM Gas Co. in helping to catalyze the transportation/logistics industry in Gallup-McKinley County, a sector that is on the verge of exploding,” said Gallup Mayor Jackie McKinney. “This partnership supports the City of Gallup’s vision for economic development and revitalization, as leveraging our transportation assets can drive long-term economic growth.”
Funding from New Mexico Gas Company is made possible through its parent company Emera Inc.; a top 20 North American utility. As part of the purchase of New Mexico Gas Company, Emera agreed to contribute $5 million dollars – within five years – to economic development projects and programs throughout the state of New Mexico.
