Gallup is a Patriotic Community, Supportive of Business and Proud of Its Military History
Gallup, New Mexico is proudly located within the United States. The community has a rich history of military service, patriotism and supporting American businesses and the military. In fact, Gallup was named the Most Patriotic Small Town in America, and for good reason. Near Gallup, the Navajo Code Talkers began working with the U.S. military, using their native language to create valuable codes that allowed soldiers to send secret messages that could not be broken by our enemies. During WWII, Gallup did not intern the Japanese, as many of the neighboring states did. The community’s commitment to freedom resonated with locals like Hiroshi Miyamura, who went on to bravely serve his country and received a medal of honor for his heroism after fighting scores of Chinese troops, killing many in hand-to-hand combat while covering the retreat of his men during a fierce battle in the Korean War.
Gallup residents have continued to show their patriotism, both through serving in the military and supporting those who do. Each year, the community honors veterans. In addition, there is a veteran’s museum in the hotel lobby of the Comfort Suites featuring memorabilia donated by local and visiting veterans.
The New Mexico Department of Veterans Services (DVS) has also opened the Gallup State Veterans Cemetery at 333 National Cemetery Drive (across the street from the McKinley County Juvenile Detention Center). This is the second state veterans cemetery developed by DVS as part of a State Veterans Cemetery Initiative to build veterans cemeteries in rural areas of the state.
Gallup is diverse and welcoming
With a history founded in diversity and patriotism, Gallup is a unique community that is simultaneously traditional, patriotic, diverse and inclusive. This is a community where people from all corners of the world are working together to create something special and to achieve their American dream.
The same is true for businesses. New businesses are welcomed with open arms and can benefit from the strong loyalty of local residents. It is common for families to work for the same company and to stay loyal for generations, providing the type of steady and reliable workforce that has become harder to find. As a result, Gallup businesses can focus on growth and expansion, knowing they have a skilled and dedicated workforce waiting to support them.
